About this Sacred Practice

Hailed as the heart of the Shri Rudram in the Yajurveda, 'Om Namah Shivaya' is composed of five sacred seed syllables: Na (Earth), Ma (Water), Śi (Fire), Vā (Air), and Ya (Space). Chanting this mantra brings the five elements of the physical and subtle body into equilibrium, quieting mental oscillations and connecting the meditator directly with the infinite stillness of Shiva.

Traditional Scriptural Context:Ancient Vedic mantra from the Krishna Yajurveda (Taittiriya Samhita). The foundational mantra of Shaiva philosophy and Raja Yoga.

Devotional Intentions

Practitioners traditionally sit with these mental orientations to cultivate inner peace, steadfast courage, and sincere devotion:

  • Spiritual purification and mental stillness
  • Balancing the five bodily and mental elements
  • Transcending worldly anxieties and finding detachment
  • Awakening meditative presence (Dhyana)
* Mantra Van presents traditional texts as sacred heritage for contemplation. No supernatural or medical cures are implied.
